The wilaya occupies an area of ​​2,398 km2 and is divided into 11 districts and 28 municipalities. It is bordered on the north by the Mediterranean Sea on a coastal strip stretching 120 km in length, from the south: the states of Setif and Mila, from the east by the state of Skikda and from the west by the wilaya of Bejaia.

It is distinguished by its agricultural character and has potentials that allow it to be a tourist destination par excellence.

The province of Jijel is also among the regions that know the largest rainfall in Algeria, as the annual precipitation rate is between 800 and 120 mm.
